Here are 3 method /approach use in tackling such problem.

One;

1.  One of the remedy is to re-issue sim card that is having same phone number
2. Install and open whatsapp
3. Go to the menu >>settings >> account and tick on delete my account 
4.  Finally enter your phone number in full international format including +234 and tap on delete my account. Congratulation you are done.

Two;

The easiest approach is to do sim welcome back (new sim card registration with same number) and activate whatsapp on a new phone or friends phone, it would delete automatically (the other phone account)

Three;

With these method you need to contact whatapp customer care and provide prove of your sim card identity and they will deactivate the account. Congratulation you are done.
