The Impact of Domestic Cattle Television on Nigeria Mass Media Audience: A Case Study of Abakiliki Metropolis

Abstract:

Today, more than ever before, the over whelming influence of foreign values in our society is quite alarming. The gradual but steady erosion of our social values typifies this phenomenon, especially, in the areas of dressing, sex, respect for sanctity of life and for elders. Reasons have been adduced for these but one incontestable fact remains the roles foreign stations and their programmes play in this issue. These roles and their effects on Nigeria mass media audience form the thrust of this research study. Collection of data for this study was based on (1) Questionnaire (2) Oral Interview (3) Personal Observation as primary source of Information (4) Secondary sources (literature) were also explored A total of 300 Questionnaires were printed and distributed, out of which 298 were returned. This was indicative of people's exposure to television and their interest in expressing themselves. Figures, tables and percentages were used in analyzing the data collected. From the investigations carried out, it was discovered that expored to satellite television (foreign news/programmes) affect or influence people's opinion, attitude and general way of life. This influence could be both negative and positive.
