THE EFFECT OF SUPERVISION ON THE PERFORMANCE  OF EMPLOYEES: A CASE STUDY OF GOVERNMENT  PRINTING PRESS BENIN CITY
ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to really find out the impact of effective supervision and to determine the effect of effective supervision and how it can enhance employees performance in an organisation. The research was carried out on the employees in the Government Printing Press, Benin City. To carry out this effectively, data were collected through the use of questionnaires, face to face interviews, participant observation and current existing records from the personnel department.

The result of this study indicates that the ability of our leaders to manage or lead effectively is the most important factor in organizations our society today. In order to effectively carry out this, there must be adequate supply of necessary working materials and equipment to enhance effective
supervision and performance of work.

The investigation also found out that share of participation by both supervisor/subordinate in problem solving and decision making will definitely affect the morale of workers and make them to increase their level of job performance without rancour, acrimony, and dissatisfaction. There should be motivational factors such as interpersonal relationship andcontinuous training of staff as a means of producing a group of workers with the determination to be efficient and productive. Also worthy of note is good environment among other things like promotion, fringe benefits both of general services and social facilities could enhance performance in employees or workers’ job. It is important to mention here that most of these factors are yet to be put into practice or implemented by the department.

In the light of these findings recommendations to improve the employees performance and supervision have been put forward to the management and it is my candid hope and opinion that the matter will be given urgent attention it deserves without further delay to meet the target set goals and objectives of the organisation.
