DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF MOISTURE EXTRACTOR AND AIR-DRYING MACHINE FOR COCOA AND MELON SEEDS

1.2 ANALYSIS OF THE TOPICS

(i) Design and fabrication of moisture extractor and air drying preservation machine for cocoa and melon seed During the harvest season, the incessant rainfalls interrupt the drying of these products that some go bad. The machine would serve to extract moisture from the air, heat the air and pass it through a chamber to expel the heated air into the free space where the products are placed. Forced draught fans assist in circulation of the hot air, thereby evenly drying the seeds. The seeds are dried, cleaned and preserved without being roasted.

(ii) Design and fabrication of a device for aeration of a fish ponds In the atmosphere, oxygen is 20.95%, carbon (IV) oxide is 0.03%,nitrogen is 78.09% and inert gas (argon) is 0.93% by volume in the air.Living organism in water undergoes aerobic respiration, hence, oxygen content of water becomes a vital condition for organism like fish to breathe and perform metabolic processes. Oxygen content of water determines the quality of water since many activities carried out in water depends on the presence of oxygen. The solubility of oxygen is  influenced by several factors e.g. water temperature, air pressure, hydrostatical pressure, salt content (salinity). In fish pond farm, it is

generally enough to consider water temperature only.

The growth of plankton blooms (phytoplankton, zooplankton)decreases transparency of water and portends a risk of oxygendepletion. The diurnal oxygen concentration of the water increases with

light of the day and falls in the night to early morning or whenever therebe overcast sky due to cloudy weather or rainfall.

Therefore, this research project is targeted to improve waterquality by supplying the oxygen demand of the fish pond when there isshortage and at night when oxygen fixation do not take place.

(iii) Pipeline integrity and maintainability of flow linesPipelines have been the most efficient means for the transportationof fluids (gases or liquids). For the efficiency of pipelines to be

maintained they must operate continuously and the through put can beachieved at minimal or lowest cost.
